Modeling icon Rachel Lobangco makes a milestone move, switching places with the photographer to stage her first one-woman exhibition titled “Women of Leq.” Opening at the One Workshop Gallery on November 15, 2008, the exhibit features 30 portraits of women shot in various locations.

Known for her movie, television, magazine and advertisement appearances, Leq is also a creative designer and painter with a Fine Arts degree. Working with several photographers such as personal photography guru Rosscapili has given Leq numerous opportunities to develop and refine her own shutterbug skills. “I’ve worked hard to make good images,” Leq shares. “I wanted to do my part to inspire photographers, models, make-up artists and up and coming talents. Now I want to be behind the camera this time.”

In creating her “Women of Leq” series, she considered style, mood, personality and overall aura, as well as physical beauty in the selection of her sitters. “I wanted the Women of Leq series to be composed of the women who made a difference in my life, not just models and actresses. I wanted to capture women during their most vulnerable times—when they are being sweet and loving.” Photography sessions took a significant amount of time as the setting for each portrait was likewise carefully chosen.

Aside from the camera, Leq also takes up a paintbrush in the presentation of her portraits, which are mounted on a huge artist’s canvas highlighted by gestural paint strokes. Leq explains that “These brush strokes signify my entry into a whole new world of self-expression for me as a visual artist.”

This painter, photographer, model and designer is also a singer, dancer and teacher specializing in poi, zips and fire dancing. In celebration of her multi-faceted creativity, Leq’s debut exhibition opening will be accompanied with theatrical dance performances and a spectacular lightworks show by Judy Gutierrez, whose portrait is likewise to be unveiled at the exhibit.

Proceeds from the “Women of Leq” by Rachel Lobangco benefits the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care.
